Carole's Taleo Adjust Story.
A journey to rediscovered mobility — and a return to heels after 30 years.
Carole King Briggs — rediscovered mobility.
Carole King Briggs is a retired army veteran known for her bubbly nature. Her life took an unexpected turn during a trampoline lesson in the military when an accident left every ligament in her knee severed. After 23 years of surgeries and constant pain with little improvement, in 2010 she made the difficult decision to have an above-knee amputation. “It was the best decision of my life,” she recalls.
Over the years Carole tried numerous prosthetics, each with benefits and limitations. One persistent problem was severe lower back pain that hampered her mobility — long walks left her in real discomfort. Despite the challenges she stayed positive, even taking up skydiving and scuba diving after her amputation.
At the start of 2024, Carole received her first microprocessor knee, the C-Leg 4, paired with a Taleo Adjust prosthetic foot. The Taleo Adjust's exceptional shock-absorbing qualities have eliminated the back pain that previously bothered her. “It's a total game changer. It's got a spring in the step. When you go back onto the heel, it takes the pressure. It's like a sponge.”
In just three months, Carole's mobility was reinvigorated — she now walks the three miles into town and back unassisted. With the Taleo Adjust's easy adjustment for heel heights from 0 to 7 cm, she is also wearing heels again for the first time since 1992. “My confidence has soared. It's made such a difference.”
Comfort that changes how you move.
