Abdullah Khan with his C-Leg 4 prosthesis

Real Life Stories

Abdullah's C-Leg Story.

A rare cancer and an above-knee amputation didn't stop Abdullah from being a man of many talents.

Abdullah 'Abs' Khan — strength on every front.

Abdullah, 29, was born in Riyadh and has lived in the UK since 2001. He is finalising his PhD at the University of Birmingham, working on gene editing to model bleeding disorders in stem-cell-derived cells, with a Post Doctoral position lined up. Around five years ago he lost his left leg during treatment for Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare cancer in bones and soft tissue.

When not in the lab, Abs plays guitar in a band, climbs with his girlfriend and competes in Para Powerlifting. His personal best in the bench press is 137kg in his weight category — and he's a British bronze medal winner from 2016. “Before I got ill I used to do a lot of running and kickboxing. Now I love powerlifting and just do the best I can.”

The C-Leg 4 has given Abs the stability and reliability he needs across all his activities. The microprocessor knee adapts to his movements in close to real time, providing secure stance and confident swing — supporting both daily life and serious training.

Abs's story shows that a microprocessor knee isn't just about walking — it's about giving the user the foundation to keep building the life they want, in the lab, on stage and on the powerlifting platform.
