Amputee sets her sights on living the French dream thanks to her microprocessor knee.
Jay Watson — eyes on France.
Professional photographer Jay Watson, from Hereford, was enjoying a busy and fulfilling life when a freak motorcycle accident in June 2022 changed everything. Her injuries were so severe she wasn't expected to survive — and after a month in a coma, 50 surgeries including a through-knee amputation, and 5 months in hospital, she returned home to begin her recovery.
Rehab began in earnest the following June. By October 2023 her strength had improved enough to start walking on early rehabilitation prosthetic aids. Her clinical team felt the best prosthesis for Jay would be a microprocessor knee — for stumble recovery, reduced energy expenditure, improved balance and increased confidence — and to reduce fall risk given the metalwork in her body from the accident.
She was prescribed the Kenevo, an MPK with the greatest possible safety features and a perfect first prosthesis. The Kenevo's Stumble Recovery Plus covers the entire swing phase: the knee is already prepared on every step, so there is no reaction time and the risk of a fall is reduced even further.
Jay set herself a goal: to be ready to return to the French house she and her partner had been renovating. “I have a lot of confidence when using the knee, and this has allowed me to push myself.” Her physios pushed her hard — cobbles, gravel, slippery decking, stairs — and she hasn't fallen on the Kenevo. “I'm looking forward to living my life again and having new adventures.”
