Ollie training with his C-Leg 4

Real Life Stories

Ollie's C-Leg Story.

Teenager overcomes cancer and amputation to pursue an active sporting life thanks to his microprocessor knee.

Ollie — back in motion.

Ollie, 16, from Birmingham, has always been passionate about sports and fitness. He would run before school, train again after school and box for hours, with aspirations of becoming a professional boxer. In March 2024, just weeks before his 16th birthday, while sparring in the boxing ring, his shin snapped without warning. He was rushed to hospital — and a biopsy confirmed adamantinoma, a rare bone cancer.

Ollie chose amputation over reconstruction, which would have left his ankle fused and limited the sports he loved. On 13 May 2024 he underwent surgery; doctors found the cancer had spread into the soft tissue, making the decision even more crucial. Despite the shock, Ollie completed three months of rehab in just one hour-long session.

Because of his fitness and unwavering determination, his clinical team chose to fit him with a microprocessor knee for his first prosthesis. Using an MPK as a primary prosthesis lets users walk more naturally from the start, regaining confidence and independence right away.

Ollie and his parents researched online and discovered the C-Leg 4 — a microprocessor knee designed for medium to highly active individuals. Today he is back on his feet, focused on returning to sport and on the active life he refused to give up.
